Small Ford Sunday FAQ’s – Frequently Asked Questions!
When is Small Ford Sunday held?
SFS is always held on the first Sunday in February every year.
Where does all the money collected go?
SFS costs money to set up and organise. Some of the money collected during the day is used to cover these costs. Each year the RSOC Vic donates some of this money to different charities – last year we donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal. This year we are planning a donation to the Brock Foundation. SFS also raises much needed funds for the Lions Club of Reservoir.
What cars are welcome?
Basically any small or medium sized Ford vehicle, from early pre war cars to the current range vehicles. This includes all year models and variants of Anglia, Capri, Cortina, Consul, Cougar (fwd), Escort, Fiesta, Festiva, Focus, Ka, Laser, Mondeo, Prefect, Telstar, Taunus, Sierra, Zephyr, Zodiac to name just a few.
When did SFS start?
SFS started in 1991 when the RSOC joined with the Capri Car Club for a joint show day at Yarra Glen – it was originally the Capri Car Club annual show day. The event later moved to Eltham Lower Park in the mid nineties, where the Cortina MK1 Owners Club also joined in the annual event and aA change of venue was required and by 1997 the event moved to its current location at Bundoora park.
My car is too old, too new or not a ‘show car’ – can I bring it along?
Yes. We encourage vehicles of all ages and condition to participate in the day. The spirit of SFS is to have all of these cars in the display, not left at home and certainly not left in the car park!
How big is SFS?
We believe it is the biggest event for small Fords in Australia, and possibly the Southern Hemisphere, and is only overshadowed by similar shows in the UK and Europe. Each year see’s nearly 200 small Fords in the display area and hundreds of viewing public attend the event.
My car is trailered, do you have trailer parking area?
Yes. We provide plenty of space for trailer parking so that competition, unregistered and unfinished projects can join in the day.
I own a business, can I put up a display at the event.
Yes, but you must register before the event. We like to ensure that any trade displays are relevant to the vehicles and people in attendance and that an appropriate area of space is reserved for you.
I have a Falcon, Mustang or other large Ford, can I join the display?
Unfortunately no. SFS was created to fill a gap in the show scene for small sized Ford vehicles. Large Fords are already well catered for by other show events during the year.
Last year was dusty, will this year be better?
Unfortunately while we would like to guarantee no dust and lush green fields, we cannot. Most of Australia has been severely affected by drought over the last few years and while we have looked heavily into alternative venues that meet the events requirements we have so far been unable to find a venue that meets our requirements. The RSOC Vic is working with the park management to tackle the issues of dust and ground quality for this year’s event.
What is the event timetable?
The event officially opens to entrants at 8.30am. Entries for judging close strictly at 12pm. Trophy presentation is at 3pm and the event closes at 4pm.
What trophy categories are on offer in 2007?
Trophy categories for 2007 will be awarded for best – Pre War Anglia, Anglia (105e), Cortina Mk1, Cortina Mk2, Cortina Mk3/4/5, Capri, Capri runner up, Escort Mk1, Escort MK2, Fiesta, Focus, Laser, Mondeo, Sierra, Zodiac/Zephyr and Other. We also have trophies for best – Club Display, Old Fords Never Die and Entrants Choice – you vote for your favourite!
I am a member of car club, is our club welcome?
Yes. As long as the cars fit our entrant vehicle criteria, clubs are welcome to setup group displays. We can pre book an area within the display based on the expected number of vehicles your club will have in attendance.
My car is not covered in those groups why not?
Each year we try to cover the most popular vehicles in attendance – last year we had a number of MK3/4/5 Cortina’s so this year we will do a trophy for this class. We base this on a minimum of 3 entered cars per class, so if we only had one Ka or Telstar last year, then we drop those cars into the “Other” class.
What car clubs attend SFS?
Regular attending clubs include – Capri Car Club, Cortina Mk1 Owners Club, The EuroFord Club, Ford Four Car Club, Zephyr Zodiac Club and of course RSOC Vic (the organising club). We have also had in attendance the 8 & 10 Sidevalve Club, Historic Rally Association, Victorian Historic Racing Register, RS Owners Club Australia, PIARC and others.
My family will be coming on the day, what else is there for them to do at the park?
Bundoora Park has a number of activities from walking tracks and play equipment, to the Visitors Centre, Children’s farm and Historic Settlement.
I am not a member of a car club, is it ok to enter SFS?
Yes. Non car club members are also welcome to enter and display their vehicles.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, however all dogs must remain on a leash and under your effective control at all times. Oh and don’t forget to bring along a plastic bag or pooper scooper to clean up after your pet.
I have some spare parts I want to sell, is that allowed?
Yes. We have a separate area for swap meet stands for those with or without a small Ford. We expect that the parts you will be selling would be relevant to these vehicles (e.g. No Chev big blocks!)
Will there be food and drinks available on the day?
Yes. The Lions Club of Reservoir provides a BBQ for the event and soft drink sales, with all funds raised going to much needed community support projects and charities.
Caffe Alfresco provides a great range of coffees – from a Short Black to a Skinny Latte.
I want to sell my car, can I do this?
Yes. Remember to bring a sale board with contact details to put on you car. SFS exposes your car to a large section of the enthusiast market.
Can I bring a picnic?
Yes.
I am travelling from interstate, is there accommodation in the area?
Yes. Accommodation is available in the surrounding suburbs of Kingsbury, Greensborough, Thomastown, Preston, Mill Park and Eltham. Bundoora Park is located approximately 20km from Melbourne’s CBD and an early Sunday morning trip should take around 15 to 20 minutes to get there, offering an extensive range of accommodation in the heart of Melbourne.
Is there disabled persons access?
Yes. Please advise us upon your arrival so we can provide special parking facilities.
How much does it cost to get in?
Whether you are entering the display, selling parts at the swap meet or selling your car – entry is still only $10 per vehicle. Viewing public can enter free of charge, though you are most welcome to make a charitable donation.
What safety planning and facilities are employed?
As part of our larger safety plan, each year the RSOC Vic undertakes an event risk assessment and implements controls to reduce any identified areas of risk. All vehicle entrants receive a “Safety 1st” instruction sheet upon entering and a St. Johns first aid crew and Ambulance is on hand throughout the event. We do our best to provide a safe environment for the event to take place.
What do I get for my $10 entry fee?
The first 200 vehicles through the gates receive an entrants pack and entry into the show awards.
I have never heard of the event before, where do you advertise it?
Each year our club undertakes a mass event promotion starting with a mail-out to – Printed media (Car Magazines, Newspapers), Car Clubs, Trade Organisations and Internet Forums, both here in Australia and some International. We also provide event flyers for download and available for anyone to pass on to other possible groups or persons of interest.
